Our breeding philosophy

Our objective is to breed cattle that offer fertility, structural soundness and longevity.  These factors, combined with carcase data, mean we produce cattle which have the bred-in balance of traits to improve the bottom line for the commercial producer.

The maternal function we value so highly (fertility, calving ease, milk production, sound feet and legs and disposition) contributes to their longevity.  At Yallambee Angus we recognise maternal function is key for reducing female replacements and therefore boosting the overall profitability of our clients.

We have consistently worked to build the Angus genetics at Yallambee to where it is today.  Our cattle consistently offer a good dataset to accompany a balance of structural soundness, performance and fertility.

Red or black … commercial producers can select bulls with confidence to suit their herd.

Producing results

Yallambee Angus has gained a reputation for performance in feedlot trials, the show ring, the paddock and at the saleyards.

Consistently tops at Red Angus Invitational sale

Yallambee Angus topped the inaugural Red Angus Invitational in Tamworth at $20,000 with Yallambee Revival (Q56) in 2021.

In the second year of the Invitational we again topped the sale with Yallambee Goldmaster R8 at $28,000 and averaged $14,500 for our 8 bulls at auction.

In this year’s sale, we were thrilled to achieve the sale top of $24,000 and all 7 of our bulls on offer were successfully sold with an average price of $15,000.

In the Show & sale ring

At our first show at the Sydney Royal with Black Angus Yallambee Angus were awarded Reserve Junior Champion with 14 month old Cowboy Up’s son, who then went on to top the bull sale at $13,000.

In the saleyards & private treaty

Currently we have sold 12 of our 25 yearling paddock bulls – consisting of sons of Paratrooper, Stella, Command and Baynes Hero.

These results, along with carcase feedback, saleyard results and talking to clients, all help us to gauge the commercial performance of our cattle and identify the balance in our breeding that best suits market requirements.

Stud history

Richard and Lynne Crookes purchased the Red Angus stud previously known as Wollumbi in 2015 where Dave Croker started and developed the breeding program 20 years ago. The herd consists of strong Wollumbi bloodlines and a foundation of superior genetics from Australia, Canada and the United States.

Our initial focus on Red Angus attracted strong and growing interest because of their maternal excellence and carcase traits, as well as their feed efficiency.

Yallambee has since added the Black Angus herd in 2018, bolstering the genetics with the purchase of Anvil Vitality and cows from Landfall Angus in Tasmania.  In 2021 Yallambee purchased the majority of the Baynes Angus herd which is based on Millah Murrah and Ardrossan genetics.

The addition of the Black Angus cattle to our program has been rewarding and across both our red and black herds, gives us the ability to breed superior livestock for the seed stock industry.

We continue to invest heavily in our breeding program with the introduction of several prominent Australian sires, notably Milwillah Blackout in 2021 for $100,000.  A son of S Powerpoint, he was carefully selected to build the performance and growth in our herd and we are looking forward to seeing the results of introducing these outstanding genetics.  We expect him to have a lasting impact, not just on breeding at Yallambee, but in the wider industry.  In particular, he is a red gene carrier and can be used on either herds.

The ongoing support from our clients is appreciated and we value their feedback as they add our genetics to their own herds.
